BUDGET MEETING MINUTES

Chairwoman Blessing called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M.
SEATING OF ALTERNATES
Ken Schoppmann motioned to seat Chopeta Lyons for Elizabeth Marco. Ann Marie Brown seconded. All were in favor, motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion to approve the Budget Meeting minutes of January 17, 2008 was made by Ken Schoppmann. Ann Marie Brown seconded. All were in favor, motion carried.
PRESENT TO SPEAK
Budget Request – Board of Education
NEW BUSINESS
Superintendent David Harding presented the Board of Education 2008-2009 request. The request is for $7,594,202.00 which represents a 4.7% increase over the current year’s budget. The budget includes a reduction of 2.5 certified full-time employees. The budget also reflects fuel and heating oil prices substantially lower than originally presented to the Board of Education. Due to a negotiated fixed price there was a $37,476.00 savings to the school budget as well as a $14,950.00 savings for the Town of Willington.

The Board asked questions for the Superintendent. Superintendent Harding said that he is moving towards more technologies in the classrooms.
The Board took comments form the Board of Education Members present at the meeting. They all agreed that the budget was well put together and thanked Superintendent Harding for all his work put it together and for his part in saving the town money with the cost of the fuel.
Chairwoman Blessing thanked the Board of Education for their presentation. She liked the way the report was presented being easy to reads and understand. She said that we are hoping for no more than a mil increase and we still have a lot of work to do. She told them that they are doing an excellent job of teaching our children.

The next budget meeting will be with the Auditors on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 7:00 pm. in the Old Senior Center located in the upper level of the Town Hall Building.
